The Ashburton

The Club’s team for the Schools’ Veterans (aka the Ashburton) on the evening of Thursday 16th July was Geoff Atkinson, David Cross, Nick Forward, Chris Leighton and Jeremy Mason.

The competition was 2+10 at 500 yards. With a challenging fish-tailing wind, the Team’s score was a creditable 222.13 ex 250. Top KCS score, and winner of the Jumbo trophy, was Chris with 50.7, shooting as the wind was dying down for the evening.

Thanks to Nick Forward and Richard Hudson for organising us. After the shoot, the team was joined by other Club members and families for the traditional sandwiches, puds and champagne by the 600 yards point.

This year, Sarah Scully had kindly and expertly prepared the feast. Many thanks to her, and to husband Dick for the giant gazebo. As usual the event was much admired by lesser teams!

This was the opening shoot of the NRA’s Imperial Meeting, and the Club will be represented this year by Geoff and Chris in what looks likely to be a wet and windy week.
